The Biggest Loser Season 8: 6 October Print E-mail

They called this week's episode an experiment, but really it was a test of what the contestants learned up to this point about eating. The contestants were locked out of their kitchen for the week and had to rely on take out for for all of their meals. That's probably what got most of them in their obese conditions to start with. That plus the lack of healthy physical activity.
They were quick to realize that  when you are not in complete charge of your food- purchasing and preparing, you can never be sure.

They had to deal with the obvious inconveniences like salad dressing not being put in a side container, or cheese being added when it was asked to not be. But these things can be corrected to a degree, just remove as much as you can and factor in the added calories. But it is what is not in the contestant's control or possibly in the restaurant's control that is of the most importance when dining out. Excess sodium, high fructose corn syrup, MSG, and partially hydrogenated oils are some of the substances that can have a negative effect even on those not counting calories and fat grams to lose weight. You can ask the server to have your food prepared without these things but there is a good chance that the food has already been prepared in an industrial kitchen, packaged, frozen and shipped to the restaurant by a major food distributor. Then all the restaurant staff has to do it open it up, heat it and place it on a plate or platter and serve it. Oh, but first add extra salt before bringing it to you. So they may have no control on how it was cooked. They do have control on what it is topped with, like salt, dressings, sauces, etc..
The show should repeat the experiment again but allow the contestants to do their own thing, like go to a healthy food grocer or a farmers market and buy fresh food that can be consumed without more than rinsing and maybe peeling.
Coach Mo was the casualty of the day this episode. One more example of what happens when you fail to use proper progression in training.
